Our Client want a barn conversion Auckland from an existing American style barn to a single bedroom home with an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area. They also wanted to keep the barn’s style and create a rustic industrial atmosphere.
To achieve this, we kept the posts and beams exposed, and polished the concrete floor. We used the high ceiling to our advantage to open up the space, with a mezzanine above the bedroom as a chill out zone and extra storage area. As the barn had a limited power supply, we added additional insulation and installed solar panels and battery storage to make the most of the barn’s all day sun, creating a low cost sustainable home. The home now has an industrial and rustic feel with its subtle references to its previous life as a farm shed.
